Nica Indian harmonium and mantra Part 1
Nica Indian harmonium and mantra Part 1
Indian Harmonium & Mantra Training (Part I)
In this online course, you will find the mantras offered and practiced in the classes. The training is in the tradition of Nāda Yoga: the yoga of sound. No prior musical knowledge is required to follow this course! You will learn this through play. You don’t need to be able to read music. Therefore, it is crucial that you first familiarize yourself with the melody and lyrics of the mantra. You learn them best by:
- listening
- singing (along)
- playing
How to use this course?
All mantras are offered not only in the classes but also here on the website. You learn them best by listening, singing, and playing.
You’ll find here:
A video of the harmonium fingering, to support the instructions in the syllabus.
Sometimes additional explanation about the background of the mantras.
An audio of the mantra, usually at different tempos, so you can start by learning it slowly and then gradually increase your tempo.
Sung performances by various artists. Please note: these performances are sometimes in a different key than the one we study in the course. In that case, you won’t be able to play along (unless you are able to adjust your key). These performances have been recorded to inspire you, to listen to and sing along to, and to give you an idea of where things might lead…
If you’ve completed Part I:
You’ll have deepened your own experience of chanting
You’ll be able to easily accompany yourself on the Indian harmonium
You’ll know about twenty different mantras, their meanings, and their background (origin/tradition)
You’ll know the basics of Western harmony (chords)
I hope you enjoy it!
